How should you prepare for an immigration appointment?

Unlike other physicals, immigration exams must have a scheduled appointment and can’t be completed on a walk-in basis. When contacting Northstar Urgent Care to schedule your appointment with one of the doctors, let the receptionist know the date of your immigration interview, ensuring there’s enough time to complete any necessary outside testing.

Before your appointment, obtain the records your doctor needs to complete your immigration physical paperwork. Your doctor needs your:

  • Immunization record or bloodwork to approve your immunity
  • Any prior chest X-rays
  • Copy of your medical records
  • International identification, including passport, identity card, laissez-passer, or travel document

What vaccines are necessary for immigration?

To immigrate to the United States, you must be up-to-date on your immunizations. Eligibility requires that you’ve received vaccinations for:

  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Influenza and influenza type B (Hib)
  • Measles, mumps, and rubella
  • Meningococcal
  • Pneumococcal
  • Pertussis
  • Polio
  • Rotavirus
  • Tetanus and diphtheria
  • Varicella

What happens during an immigration physical appointment?

When you see your doctor at Northstar Urgent Care for an immigration physical, you must show your passport (or some other form of photo identification) and appointment letter for the doctor to complete the paperwork.

During the exam, your doctor reviews your medical history, completes a blood test for syphilis, a urine test for gonorrheria, and orders a test for Tuberculosis.

Your doctor performs a physical exam, screening for specific conditions relevant to immigration law.

Once your doctor completes your exam, they give your exam results to you in a sealed envelope.
